Raffle Rules

Western North Carolina Public Radio (d.b.a WCQS) is incorporated as a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit corporation under the laws of the State of North Carolina for the primary purpose of operating an educational public radio station. The WCQS Summer Raffle is conducted for the purpose of generating operating funds.

Purchase one or more raffle tickets during the WCQS Summer Raffle and you’ll be entered to win a car from Audi Asheville part of the Harmony Motors Group. The winner will select the car of their choice among two models as specified in prize information below; no cash remuneration will be made for choosing the model of lesser price. Only 999 tickets will be sold. Raffle tickets are $116 each and benefit WCQS. Odds of winning are based on the number of ticket entries purchased up to 999. Must be 18 years of age or older. Contest void where prohibited. Sweepstakes begin at 12:01 am on June 27, 2016 and end at midnight on August 7, 2016.  All times referenced for the WCQS Summer Raffle are Eastern Time.

HOW TO ENTER: There are three ways to enter.

  1. Go to https://donate.nprstations.org/wcqs-members/ticket-ride-summer-raffle and complete the online entry form and pay entry fee with your credit card.
  2. Call WCQS at 828-210-4810 during regular business hours, M-F. Provide your entry information (name, address, telephone, email) over the phone along with credit card information.
  3. Mail completed entry form to WCQS, 73 Broadway, Asheville, NC 28801 with your payment for $116 per ticket. Entry forms may be obtained at the WCQS at 828-210-4810 or by downloading and printing the WCQS Raffle Entry Form at WCQS.org. Mailed entries must be received by WCQS no later than August 6, 2016.

Ticket Purchases: Once submitted, entries become the sole property of WNC Public Radio and will not be returned or refunded.

ELIGIBILITY: Present employees of Western North Carolina Public Radio and any immediate family members residing with the employees are not eligible to participate. Must be 18 years or older to enter. Contest void where prohibited. You need not be present to win.

SELECTION AND NOTIFICATION OF WINNERS:  Winner will be selected at random and announced on the air on August 17, 2016. Winner will be notified by telephone, mail and/or email. If potential winner(s) cannot be reached after 10 days from first notification attempt, or if an entrant is found to be ineligible, or a prize notification is returned as undeliverable, such prize will be forfeited and alternate winner(s) will be selected by random drawing.

PRIZE SELECTION: The winner of the WCQS Ticket to Ride Summer Raffle will choose one of the following vehicles:

2016 Audi A3 2.0T quattro S tronic with6-speed S tronic transmission, quattro all-wheel drive system,  leather seating surfaces, panoramic sunroof, twelve-way power driver's seat including four-way power lumbar adjustment, automatic xenon plus headlights with LED daytime running lights and LED taillights, and dual-zone climate control, and heated seats. Prize is valued at $38,400.

2016 Audi Q5 2.0T quattro Tiptronic with AWD, 8-speed Tiptronic (automatic) transmission, leather seating surfaces, heated front seats, 3-zone climate control, automatic xenon plus headlights with LED daytime running lights and LED taillights, 8-way power adjustable front seats, 40/20/40 rear seat with pass-through, recline, fore/aft adjustment and panoramic sunroof. Prize is valued at $42,325.

MODIFICATIONS OR CANCELATION OF DRAWING: WCQS reserves the right to cancel or modify the Raffle. If 550 tickets are not sold by 5 p.m. on July 20th, WCQS, at its option, may cancel the raffle. In such case ticket purchases will be refunded.

IMPORTANT CAR INFORMATION: Upon verification of the winner, WCQS will notify Audi Asheville to finalize selection and processing of the vehicle to the winner. The vehicle will be one of the models listed above in PRIZE SELECTION. The winner will select the model of their choice from the two models offered. The terms of the car dealership’s and manufacturer’s documentation will govern issues of liability relating to the prize after acceptance of the automobile by the Winner. 

INDEMNIFICATION AND LIMIT ON LIABILITY: As a condition of accepting a prize, winner acknowledges that WCQS is not responsible for any harm, injury, or damage caused to any person or property, proximate or otherwise, through the use of any prize by any person, and agrees to save and hold harmless WCQS, its principals and employees from any claim of such responsibility. “Harm, injury or damage” includes but is not limited to occurrences beyond the control of WCQS such as death, bodily injury, property damage, or theft, or for failure of any automobile manufacturer’s or dealership’s warranties.

GENERAL: Ticket purchases are non-refundable and are not tax deductible. By entering the raffle, participants agree that WCQS, its agents and employees have no liability whatsoever for any injuries, losses, or damages of any kind which result from the date of award. The prize is non-transferable, and cannot be exchanged for cash. In the event the winner chooses the lesser priced vehicle, there is no supplemental cash prize to bring the equal to the value of the higher priced vehicle. WCQS may use winner’s name and likeness for publicity purposes without further compensation. WCQS is not responsible for any failure of communication or failure of the Internet or its website. WCQS reserves the right to modify these rules and will give prompt announcement of any rule changes. All decisions of WCQS are final and binding in all matters related to this raffle.

TAX OBLIGATIONS:  The winner is responsible for all federal taxes (25% MSRP minus the wager); the winner must present a check for the prize tax to WCQS before prize can be claimed. (This is Uncle Sam's rule, not ours. ) If the winner of the car is from NC, they will pay 3% state tax plus vehicle registration fees to Harmony Motors. All local and state taxes and fees are the sole responsibility of the winner. For any prizes values at $600 or more, WCQS will file IRS Form W2-G with Internal Revenue Service reporting the value of the prize as income to the winner. Winner must show proof of social security number of WCQS. This is for tax recording purposes only, and will be not be used or released for any other purposes.

RESTRICTIONS: By participating in the WCQS Summer Raffle, a participant agrees to be bound by these Official Rules, and by all decisions of WCQS. For further information, please call the WCQS Membership Department at 828-210-4810.

AFFIDAVIT OF ELIGIBILITY AND LIABILITY / PUBLICITY RELEASE OF GRAND PRIZE WINNER: The Winner must show proof of valid driver’s license and will be required to sign an Affidavit of Eligibility and Publicity/Liability Release in order to claim their prize.

AUTHORITY AND CONTROL: The decision of WCQS shall be final in all matters concerning the Raffle. The Raffle is subject to the laws of the state of North Carolina. The Raffle is void where prohibited by law. WCQS is not responsible for any errors or omissions in the Raffle’s advertising and/or any printed, broadcast, or internet-provided materials or information.

OVERSIGHT: The accounting firm of Carter PC Accounting and Consulting officiates the drawing of the Grand Prize.
